Welcome!

IMPORTANT - SORRY, BUT DUE TO A LICENSING ISSUE AT THE CLUB THE JAM HAS HAD TO BE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED.

Sorry for any inconvenience. We will be back as soon as possible - please watch this space.

"One of the things I like about jazz, kid, is I don’t know what’s going to happen next. Do you?" - Bix Beiderbecke

"Jazz is there and gone. It happens. You have to be present for it. That simple." - Keith Jarrett

Sax

The jam sessions are held weekly every Sunday evening. Admission is £3. Jam sessions start at 8.00pm, hosted by Deano with house band The Chris Neill Trio (winners of the 2011 Budvar Brewed Jazz competition for best pub jazz band), downstairs at:

Buckhurst Hill Sports and Social Club
50 Queens Road
Buckhurst Hill
Essex
IG9 5BY

For a map please click here. The club entrance is down an alleyway just before Ladbrokes - there is a picture of the club entrance at the bottom of this page; it is quite difficult to spot!

The atmosphere is friendly and informal, the audience are supportive, the club staff are fantastic, and drinks are very reasonably priced.

The jam is also a great family-friendly night. No over-18s rule here (probably just as well, two thirds of the house band are under 18 for a start!) - if you have children / grandchildren / siblings who are into jazz bring them along! It is a great fun night, and if they are musicians who play jazz so much the better, they are welcome to get up on stage (we have the ABRSM Real Books, which are used for jazz grades, here so they can play songs they have learned for their grades if they want). Just come along and enjoy the great friendly and supportive atmosphere and the diverse range of music.

The club is down an alleyway just before Ladbrokes (please see picture at the bottom of this page). Parking outside on Queens Road is free, and there are normally plenty of spaces. The club is about a 5 minute walk from Buckhurst Hill tube (Central Line). It is a "members only" club, but for these sessions the restrictions are lifted; just come in, buy a drink and make yourself at home.

If you are playing or singing "Real Books" are available (to download list click here), but if you want to bring your own music please make sure you bring two copies of the chords (and if you are playing a transposing instrument, make sure they're in C please!) for the backing band. On arrival please add your name to the list. People will get to play in order so please get there early if you don't want a long wait for your turn!

The most important thing is ... just get up and enjoy yourself! Most of the musicians are just enthusiastic amateurs, so don't be shy - just get up there and give it a go.
